CIRCLE DESCRIPTION
This circle is for writers and creators who are actively navigating the modern development landscape: optioned projects, stalled projects, dead pilots, false starts, and the strange exhilaration of “we love it, but we can’t make it… unless you are secretly Batman.*”(*If you are Batman or hero/villain in the Marvel/DC/NetflixxonMobil cinematic universe, this circle is probably not right for you.)
This is not a 101 or “How to Pitch” workshop. It’s a roundtable for creatives who already know the basics and want grounded, contemporary insight into what is actually happening in development today: post-COVID, post WGA strike, post-AI, and deep into the era of IP recycling.
We will focus on clarity, strategy, boundary-setting, and alternate crossmedia pathways that keep your creative identity intact while still building a sustainable career.
During this circle, you’ll:
- Build tools for managing impostor syndrome, resentment fatigue, and zero-sum assumptions
- Explore practical strategies for juggling multiple ideas without burning out
- Define your version of success, including alternate paths outside traditional studio systems
- Explore how ‘takes’ and fanfic-adjacent approaches occasionally open the door to established IP (for those hoping that Batman still manages to sneak into this Circle).
- Understand what executives are actually up against, and how that context shapes their notes
- Learn how to discern the difference between pushing back, adapting strategically, and walking away
- Develop techniques for protecting creative integrity even when the project evolves
- Convert frustration into specific action so you don’t stall during long “hurry up and wait” phases
- Share and receive honest experiences, patterns, and lessons from working peers that can help the entire group move forward
Above all, this circle centers the belief that rising tides lift all creators who show up with sincerity, generosity, and accountability.
