WIA [Women in Animation] has announced the lineup for its 2025 World Summit at Annecy.
As revealed exclusively to Variety, the ninth edition of the event, taking place on June 9, will be themed The Future is Animated and will focus, among other things, on adult animation.
“It’s a subject very close to my heart, as I produce ‘Invincible’ and run the studio over at Skybound Entertainment. Our whole focus is adult animation,” admitted WIA president Marge Dean.

Today, WIA announced the lineup for this year’s WIA WORLD SUMMIT at the Annecy International Animation Festival and Mifa 2025. This year’s summit, themed “The Future is Animated,” will examine emerging industry innovations and the power of community as we navigate the evolving animation landscape.
The ninth annual WIA WORLD SUMMIT will take place on Monday, June 9th at the Impérial Palace Hotel (Allée de l’Impérial, 74000 Annecy) at the Salle de l’Europe and will feature a day-long symposium of panels and focused conversations spotlighting key thought leaders, filmmakers and executives from around the world discussing gender equity — a system of equity and fairness for people of all genders, gender identities and presentations. The Summit will be recorded and posted subsequently on the WIA website.

Meet Hungarian animation director and illustrator, Luca Tóth, chosen to create this year’s WIA World Summit artwork. As the Annecy International Animation Film Festival – host of this year’s Summit – spotlights Hungary as its featured country, Tóth’s selection carries special significance. Born in 1989, the artist honed her craft at Budapest’s Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design before earning her Master’s at London’s Royal College of Art, with her graduation film The Age of Curious winning Annecy’s Jury Distinction Prize – foreshadowing this full-circle moment in her career.
Tóth’s bold work showcases Hungary’s vibrant animation scene. Her independent shorts Superbia (2016) and Mr. Mare (2019) premiered at Cannes’ Critics’ Week and Berlinale respectively, collectively screening at more than 150 festivals worldwide.
For this year’s WIA World Summit, Tóth’s piece channels her signature exploration of movement and human connection. The artwork promises to reflect both her nation’s rich artistic heritage and WIA’s mission, creating a visual bridge between animation’s past and its inclusive future.
